Can you believe it’s already October?! Fall is officially in full swing, so BRING ON THE COZY!

I’m all about sweaters. Like I honestly think you truly can’t have “too many”. But one thing that I have been trying to do lately, is have more of a capsule closet, which as a recovering shopaholic… is HARD! So I am definitely taking baby steps here. But I wanted to share with you some key pieces that everyone needs in their wardrobe. And by need I really do mean NEED.

Okay, so you only need 5 key pieces to make the perfect fall wardrobe. I promise. Each and everyone one of these pieces could be interchanged and worn together to make many different outfit combinations. First things first & my favorite …

The sweater

I personally love a mock turtle neck. Mainly because regular turtle neck sweaters choke me out! I will say this color block sweater from Nordstrom is PERFECT. Not that you need this specific sweater, but you’ll thank me if you do get it. The fit and cut of this sweater is amazing. I normally buy size M because I like the oversized look, but I stuck to a S and it’s perfect. I’m wearing it tucked in, but it’s also a great length to be worn out as well. The real key to having the perfect sweater for a capsule wardrobe is making sure it’s a good fit AND in your color pallet. I stick to neutrals so I’ll wear this sweater more times then if it was in a red combination. But if you LOVE color then stick with what you love.

The denim jacket

I have always loved a good denim jacket. I also really like my oversized now. I used to always buy them just the “right size” but now that I’ve gone bigger, I don’t think I can ever go back! It makes it perfect for laying all the way into to the winter, from a thin long sleeve shirt to a bulky sweater. I got this one at Forever 21 and have been wearing it all the time. The lighter wash is my favorite. It goes so good with a denim on denim look, but also really good with black jeans. Having such a versatile jacket is so nice and convenient for any season.

The Cardigan

Okay. This cardigan is THE BEST. It’s the softest and coziest thing I have ever worn. Cardigans are so great for throwing on over anything you wear, from dressing and skirts to jeans and leggings. I love this one especially because it’s like walking around with a blanket on. The cream color is also perfect for everything. I got it at Nordstrom during their Anniversary Sale for an amazing deal, but I would still have paid full price for it because it’s that amazing. Everyone NEEDS this cardi in their life.

The black denim

Best. Denim. Ever. These are actually my first ever high waisted jeans. I was always afraid they would make my butt look bigger, but I went out on a limb and get them anyway because I loved the stretch and the distressing. And you guys, I have been LIVING in them — like seriously. I will wear them and wash them repeatedly. They just are the most flattering pair of jeans I own. These are from Target’s Wild Fable line. I think what I loved the most is the price. ($20) Yes, you read that right. ONLY $20. I’ve honestly been tempted to buy a second pair. The best staple piece ever.

the boots

Being a short girl (5’1”), I wasn’t too sure about over-the-knee boots. But I am obsessed, especially paired with a skirt or dress. No you don’t need over the knee boots like these, but everyone needs a good pair of boots, whether they’re booties or tall boots. A good black pair that will go with jeans, skirt, dresses and dress pants. A pair that you can dress up for a night out or dress down for a casual day full of errands. I love heals, don’t get me wrong. But a 1” heal is THE best height for all day wear. These suede OTK boots have lasted me a couple seasons and I love how many ways I can wear them.
