Indy : Food Guide

Brunch

I grew up HATING breakfast food. But that was because in my family you ate it before 8 am! And I am the farthest thing from a morning person. But once I discovered "brunch" I fell in love, and it is now my best friend. 1) It doesn't require you to wake up before 9:00 am. 2) It counts as two meals!! So in a way I can just eat more.

Cafe Patachou

4901 N. Pennsylvania Street, Indianapolis, IN 46205

This is my all time FAVE!! This was actually my first experience with brunch. I went with my mom on my 22nd birthday and we now go every year. After 2 years, I have had several things on the menu. But my favorite, by far, is:

Avocado Toast with a fried egg or a waffle // I also substitute the salad for a cup of fruit. This is by far the best avocado toast I have ever had and you will not be disappointed with ANYTHING on the menu! The atmosphere at all locations is great too.

Milktooth

534 Virginia Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46203

Voted one of the best restaurants and for good reason. Besides the food, the atmosphere is what brings people to this cute little breakfast spot in Fletcher Place.

Tarte tatin dutch baby pancakes w/ sorghum glazed bacon // This pancake is about the size of your face topped with roasted apples and a caramel sauce. It is by far the best thing I have ever gotten at Milktooth. In addition to their fancy latte's.

Munch

I know this isn't a type of meal, BUT sometimes you just NEED a little something, and by need I mean want, to munch on! These are definitely my go-to's when my sweet tooth takes control. (Which is more often than I care to admit.)

The cake bake shop

6515 Carrollton Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46220

This is the CUTEST bakery I have ever seen in my life. No joke. From the moment you walk up to the French inspired house, to the first look of the abundance of all things girly, and to the glitter that is embellished on every piece of dessert, YOU will feel as though you took a trip far out of the city of Indianapolis and to the land of princess. I know that probably seems a tad dramatic BUT once you see it for yourself you understand exactly. Being that it's called "The Cake Bake" I chose to get dessert, although they do have some "food" items.

Cheesecake // If you are a cheesecake fan then you will LOVE theirs. It's so rich and creamy! And definitely enough to split with your friend. The Cake Bake adapts their menu for what the season is. Currently this fall they are serving Cherry Cheesecake, which I will be for sure making a trip up there to sink my teeth in.

The flying cupcake

423 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46204

This is one of my all time favorites! I first started going to the Greenwood location, but have started frequenting the Mass. Ave. location more and more the last year. But these are the best cupcakes I have ever tasted.

Red Velvet w/ Chocolate Chips and Cream Cheese Icing // This is THE perfect combination. From the first bite to the last you will live in the rich, moist flavors of this cupcake. You might even feel as though it may be too rich; if that's the case, wash it down with an ice cold glass of chocolate milk. You will not be disappointed though, that's for sure.

Lunch

Or dinner. This is definitely a short list as there is no Mexican food on here! But these four restaurants are soo good that I keep finding myself going again and again. I'm sure you will too. Most are located on Mass. Ave. and the electricity of that part of the city makes people , and myself, keep on coming back.

Bru Burger Bar

410 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46204

This was my first restaurant that I ate at on Mass. Ave. I loved the outdoor / indoor seating option. You can just feel the electricity coming in off the street. I am not normally a burger person so I was kind of skeptical, but these are more than just good. I swear. One of the best burgers I have ever had.

Soft Pretzels served with beer cheese and spicy mustard or the Bourbon Burger // Topped with bacon, peppercorn-bourbon glaze, and horseradish havarti. Both are so amazing! The soft pretzels are an appetizer but sometimes I just get them as my entree or I split them with the table and get the burger as well.

The eagle

310 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46204

Most commonly known for their fried chicken. I had heard some hype, but I always thought: "My grams makes fried chicken and you can't get better than hers." (Her southern cooking is unlike anything.) I decided to try it out anyway and I was far from disappointed.

1/4 chicken dark meat with a side of their fries which are tossed in herbs with a side of aioli. // Talk about mouth watering. The chicken has this sweet flavor that is unlike any chicken I have ever had. I promise the hype is well  deserved. I also get their mac-n-cheese, which is sooo delicious too! It's creamy & cheesy and is a perfect with their chicken.
